Winter Car Kit
For the better part of 2020, I’ve had a covid-essentials kit in my car to make sure I’m always prepared with masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, and antibacterial wipes. As the weather has gotten colder, I recently upgraded my kit to include winter weather essentials as well.
I put together items that would help make my mornings easier in the event of ice, snow, or just freezing temperatures. Keep reading to see everything I included in my Winter Car Kit, and a video of the final product!
TIP #1: FIND THE RIGHT CONTAINER
Everything stays organized and in one place with a simple shower caddy. This option has a lot of smaller compartments around the outside, making it perfect for storing all of your covid AND winter car kit essentials.
TIP #2: KEEP WARMING ESSENTIALS HANDY
There’s nothing worse than climbing into a cold car in the mornings. When it’s particularly frigid, I’m always glad to have a quick blanket to throw over the kids in the back or some handwarmers within arms reach to slide into my gloves while I de-ice the windshield. (Keep an extra set of gloves in the kit to save you a trip back inside if you forget your regular pair.)
TIP #3: PREPARE FOR SHORT WINTER DAYS
This time of year, it’s probably dark out when you leave work. It’s a good idea to keep a flashlight in your kit in case you get snowed in after dark, or have a flat tire or empty tank on the way home. It will certainly help speed up resolving any minor car emergencies this winter!
TIP #4: ICE, ICE BABY – GET RID OF IT EASILY!
Two must-haves for any winter car kit are a good windshield scraper and a quick-acting de-icer. This one works in just 10-15 seconds!
If you want to skip the scraping and de-icing all together, another option is a windshield cover. Put it on the night before and when you leave in the morning, just pull it off and shake it out. Store in your truck in case snow is expected during the day as well.
TIP #5: KEEP IT TOGETHER
To cut down on bags and bins in the car, keep your covid essentials in the same storage caddy. I include extra masks, hand sanitizer, gloves (for pumping gas), and wet wipes in mine!
All of the products linked above can be found in my Amazon Storefront, so you can easily throw together a Winter Car Kit for your family or as a gift. As always, I hope you will take these ideas and build on them to find what works for your family so you can stay safe and warm this winter!
