Organized Moves: Packing & Unpacking Services in Maryland

Full-service packing, unpacking, and home setup for families moving in or around Annapolis, Baltimore, and central Maryland. Walk into a home that is already livable on Day 1.

We Make Moving Easy

Most people do not move very often, and that is a big part of why it feels impossible when it happens. Boxes everywhere, decisions stacking up, kids asking where their stuff is, and work emails still landing in your inbox while you try to figure out where the toaster ended up. There is a reason moving shows up on every stress list ever published.

We have been managing moves for Maryland families for over a decade. Some are local, some are coming in from out of state, some are downsizing into a smaller home, and others are upsizing into the house they have been planning for years. The common thread is that none of them want to spend the next six weeks living out of boxes, and none of them wants to be the one figuring out where the spatula goes at 9 p.m. on a Tuesday.

That is the part we take off your plate.

Systems by Susie team managing an organized move in Maryland

What an Organized Move Looks Like

A full Systems by Susie move can include any or all of the following. Most families pick the pieces that fit their situation, and we build the timeline around what you actually need.

Pre-Move Decluttering

The single best thing you can do before a move is edit what you do not want to take with you. Packing it up, paying movers to load it onto a truck, and then unpacking it at the new house is the most expensive way to keep something you did not even want. We come in before the boxes show up and help you make decisions room by room. Donations get handled by our team and taken to a trusted local charity, so you are not running back and forth to Goodwill in the middle of everything else.

Packing Services

We pack with the unpack in mind, which sounds simple but most moving companies do not do it. Boxes are sorted by room and by zone, so when we arrive at the new house, the kitchen pantry boxes go straight to the pantry instead of getting stacked in a corner with everything else labeled kitchen. We use quality materials, custom color-coded labels, and an inventory system that makes unpacking about ten times faster.

Moving Day Coordination

You do not have to manage the movers. We have got it. We handle every detail of moving day, including providing lunch, drinks, and tips for the movers. We arrive in advance to hang signs on each room that are color-coordinated with the boxes we packed. We are on-site directing where boxes go, troubleshooting the inevitable hiccups, and making sure things land where they belong. If you would rather be at work, with the kids, or on vacation, you absolutely can be.

Unpacking and Home Setup

This is where most moves fall apart and where we shine. Every box gets unpacked, every item gets a home, and every room is set up with intuitive systems from Day 1. Beds get made. TVs get mounted. Kitchen drawers get organized so you can actually cook dinner that first night instead of fishing through three boxes to find a sharp knife.

Pantry and Closet Systems

While we are already unpacking, we build organizing systems in the spaces that need them most. Pantries, closets, and kitchens are the obvious ones. This is significantly easier and more cost-effective to do during the move than to redo six months later, when everything has already settled into the wrong spots.

Donation and Disposal Coordination

We haul off the donations. We break down and recycle the boxes. We coordinate with junk removal for anything you are getting rid of that cannot be donated. By the time we are done, your home is set up and your driveway is not full of cardboard.

Downsizing and Senior Moves

Downsizing has its own emotional weight, especially when you are going from a family home of thirty years into something smaller. We work slowly and compassionately, helping you make decisions about what comes with you, what goes to family members, what gets donated, and what is worth selling. We connect you with our network of professionals and charities so you feel good about where your items end up. We have helped many families through this, including some after the loss of a spouse, and we know it is a lot more than just stuff. It is easier to let go of something when you know it is going to a good home.

Renovation-Related Moves

Sometimes the move is not to a new house. It is to a temporary setup while your house gets renovated, with another move back into the finished space months later. We handle both ends, including the packing-up-and-storing phase in the middle. See our Renovation and New Build Consulting page for more.

How an Organized Move Works

The timeline depends on the scope, but here is roughly what to expect when you hire us for a full-service move.

1

Consultation

We start with an in-person consultation at your current home, or virtually if you are out of state. You walk us through your move, the timeline, what is most important to get right, and where the pain points are. We take photos and measurements of both homes if possible, then put together a custom move plan.

2

Pre-Move Editing

A few weeks before the move, we come in and help you go through your belongings. This is the declutter phase, and it is the part most families skip and then regret. Anything you do not want at the new house gets sorted into donate, sell, or trash, and our team handles the logistics from there.

3

Packing

We pack everything systematically, by room and by zone, with labels that mean something on the other end. Boxes labeled miscellaneous are the enemy. If the move is across state lines or going into long-term storage, we can itemize each box on a comprehensive move management spreadsheet.

4

Moving Day

Movers do the heavy lifting. We coordinate. You can be there or not, depending on what works for your schedule.

5

Unpacking and Setup

We unpack every box, organize every space, and set up the home with systems from the moment you walk in. Beds made, kitchen functional, bathrooms stocked, and closets organized.

6

Final Walkthrough

We walk you through the finished home, explain the new systems we built, and answer questions about where things live now. Boxes are broken down, donations are gone, and the house is ready for you to actually live in.

Why Families Across Maryland Trust Us with Their Moves

A Team That Can Actually Mobilize

With fifteen experienced Professional Organizers on staff, we can deploy a full team to handle a move at the speed it actually needs to happen. Some of our moves get unpacked and set up in two or three days. That is not a solo organizer with a side hustle. That is a trained team built for this.

We Pack and Unpack

Most moving companies do one or the other. They pack you up, dump the boxes at the new house, and leave. We handle both ends with the same team, which means the same person who packed the box is unpacking it. Nothing gets lost in translation.

Real Systems, Not Just Boxes Unpacked

Unpacking is the easy part. Setting up a home so it actually functions is harder, and it is where most moves go wrong. We do not just empty the boxes. We build the systems your family will use for the next ten years.

Discretion and Care

We are trusted by high-profile clients, C-suite executives, and professional athletes and coaches relocating to the Baltimore area, and we bring the same confidentiality and care to every move. We happily sign NDAs, never share photos without permission, and our team is fully insured and background-checked.

Susie’s Background Shows Up in the Work

Susie was a military spouse for two decades before founding Systems by Susie. She has personally moved more times than she can count, often on short notice, with three kids in tow and a husband deployed. That experience is the reason this business exists, and the reason our team understands what families actually need during a move.

Local Knowledge

We know the Maryland metro and the Eastern Shore. We know which donation organizations actually show up when they say they will. We know the storage solutions that work in older Annapolis homes and the ones that work in newer builds in Howard County. We know the best moving companies and junk haulers to use. Local matters in this work.

Best Time to Call Us

The honest answer is as early as possible. Most families call us three to four months before their move date, which gives us time to handle the pre-move declutter, plan the packing, and coordinate with movers. Some clients book us six months out, especially for summer moves and back-to-school timing, when our calendar fills up fastest.

That said, we have done same-week moves. Trades happen. Job offers happen. Life happens. If your timeline is tight, call us. We will figure out what is possible.

Susie Salinas, founder of Systems by Susie

About Susie and the Team

In 2014, Susie Salinas started Systems by Susie with one mission: lightening the loads of busy people so they could have more time to focus on what they love. Today, she leads a team of fifteen incredible organizers across six Maryland counties.

Susie was a military spouse for two decades and a former event planner before this. She has lived the move-every-two-years life, packed her own house up while pregnant, and unpacked into homes where she did not know a single neighbor. The team she built reflects that experience. Efficient under pressure, compassionate when things get emotional, and never losing sight of the fact that a move is a major life transition for the people inside it.

Every member of our team is fully insured, background-checked, and trained in the Systems by Susie process. We treat every home we walk into the way we would treat our own.

Frequently Asked Questions

Three to six months is the sweet spot. That gives us time to handle pre-move decluttering, coordinate with movers, and plan the unpack. For summer moves and back-to-school timing, book sooner, because our calendar fills up fastest in those windows. We have done shorter timelines and even same-week moves when life requires it, so call us either way and we will tell you what is possible.

We do not have our own moving trucks, but we work with several local moving companies we trust and can coordinate the whole thing for you. We handle the booking, the day-of coordination, and the troubleshooting. If you have already booked your own movers, no problem. We coordinate with whoever you have hired.

Yes, and this is a popular option for families who packed their old house themselves but do not want to spend three weeks digging through boxes at the new one. We come in after move day, unpack everything, build organizing systems in the spaces that need them, and set up the home so it is livable fast.

We help with that often. We coordinate the unpacking side of the move and can do a virtual consultation beforehand. Plenty of our clients have flown in to a fully set-up home after their movers offloaded the truck and our team took it from there.

Yes. Downsizing has its own emotional weight, especially when you are leaving a long-time family home. We approach it gently and patiently, helping you make decisions about what comes with you, what goes to family members, what is worth selling, and what gets donated. Our team has helped many families through this transition, including some that follow the loss of a spouse, and we handle it with the compassion it deserves.

We coordinate the whole thing. Donations get sorted and taken to local Maryland partners we trust. Items worth selling can go through consignment or estate sale channels we work with. Anything that needs to be hauled away gets coordinated with junk removal. By the time we are done, your old house is empty and your driveway is not full of leftover stuff.

Both options exist, and most clients do both at once because it is more efficient and significantly cheaper than coming back to redo organizing six months later. The unpack itself is straightforward. Building real systems for pantries, closets, and kitchens while we are unpacking is where most of the long-term value comes from.
